However, wrapping a vehicle isn’t without its drawbacks, like all things that are changed on the exterior of an automobile. Decals can be installed poorly at times; they can weather, and they can be subjected to other variables that will affect their lifespan and look. Regularly washing the vehicle after long exposure to dirty conditions is a good near-term remedy, and parking in shaded or protected areas to help extend the wrap life is useful. However, if a vehicle wrap has significantly faded, doing a section or complete replacement is likely the best option to help restore the vehicle’s original luster, and it will have the most appropriate impact on the brand style aspects.
Poor Adhesion in Cold Weather
Cracks and tears typically happen when a wrap gets brittle because of excessive sun exposure, extreme temperatures, or aging. These examples often can be found on older wraps that were not properly cared for. To prevent cracking, select vinyl wraps that are rated for durability, and remember to care for them safely—low dilutions of cleaning chemicals are preferred. Do not use harsh chemicals or rough materials while washing. Cracks and tears are easily repairable—isolated smaller damaged areas are sometimes able to be patched with similar vinyl, but larger areas such as the full hood or several panels would generally require the full replacement to have a seamless look.
